New Sci-fi dystopian film, Love and Monsters stars Dylan O’Brian(Teen Wolf) as Joel, a hopeless romantic yearning to reunite with his one true love. Seven years have passed since the Monsterpocalypse began on earth where all the insects have mutated to ginormous flesh eating beasts. Joel lives in an underground bunker with his adopted family in search of his first love Aimee played by Jessica Henwick (Underwater). Hung up on his love for her, Joel spends most of his time surfing through different radio waves until he connects with Aimee in a district eighty miles away. As things become more dangerous in the bunker with breaches happening frequently, Joel is inspired to face his fears and go outside to help his bunker family and see Aimee again.

Having never killed a living thing Joel is faced with near death experiences traveling through unfamiliar land filled with monstrous insects and amphibians ready to eat. On the journey he befriends a dog and a couple of stragglers Clyde (Michael Rooker) and Minnow (Ariana Greenblatt) headed to a safer area to live with less monsters in the mountains. Clyde, Minnow and Joel bond over the trauma of witnessing the loss of their loved ones. Still mourning the death of their family, Clyde and Minnow found a way to live above the ground by distinguishing between the vicious and harmless insect monsters. Joel learns how to kill specifically dangerous ones and takes note of all the alien evolved insects he’s encountered through illustrations in a book. Building somewhat of a bond following Clyde and Minnow ways Joel parts ways to continue his search to see Aimee. Upon arrival Joel learns Aimee is no longer in love with him and recently lost her most recent boyfriend. Heart broken, Joel connects to the radio to communicate with his bunker family and finds inspiration to go back to help them. With his new knowledge he is able to guide Aimee and her district out of trouble, and goes back home to help his family. This coming of age apocalyptic story is filled with important life lessons, one being that love will require you to face your fears. Love and Monsters shows even when it’s the end love is always the answer.
