New Netflix show, Tuca and Bertie delves into life in a seriously funny way.
Tuca and Bertie is a new show from Netflix, that is apart of the hit adult animated show Bojack Horseman universe. Birdtown is filled with many other different quirky characters but the friendship between Tuca and Bertie is what carries the story in a pleasant but true way.
Tuca voiced by Tiffany Haddish and Bertie voiced by Ali Wong have a natural chemistry that makes this show a comedic success. Tuca and Berties are both thirty year old birds that are in two different stages in life. On one hand Tuca is the wild, irresponsible best friend with no real direction in life, while Bertie is the opposite with having a boyfriend move in, full time job, passion for baking and an extensive savings account, these best friends somehow make their differences work. Tuca’s impulsive lifestyle choices ensues starting different fast money making jobs, dumpster diving items to put in her apartment and wild purchases usually calls for Berties help and it goes both ways. Their friendship is strong because they both push each to be better, Tuca is always there to push Bertie to follow her dreams and Bertie pushes Tuca to be the person (or bird) she can be. Similar to Bojack Horseman this comedy takes a sharp turn to the realities of tragedy from our past that eventually haunts our future. Having been brought up in differently, these birds bond about there joyous times as young birds living it up in the city. The love they have for one another is present as they encourage each other to work hard and try their best to accomplish more in life. Bertie’s passion for baking eventually scores her an awesome apprenticeship with head bakery of the town but working there takes her back to time her life that she never truly spoke about.
But as we delve deeper into their friendship the audience begins to understand the underlying hidden issues each character is dealing with. Tuca’s problem derives on how she was brought up and how a specific tragedy affects her relationship with her family. While Bertie’s troubling past affects how she handles issues in her present and how it affects the people she cares about. Tuca and Berties beautifully goes through the motions of life in a fun way that can make you laugh out loud. The show perfectly embodies growing up and going through the roller coaster of life with your best friend.
